Fun With Puns: Just Chicken In

Spring has me in a happy, silly mood and this card reflects that. 

The sentiment reads: Just Chicken In.  The patterned paper and alphas are Jillibean Soup. I love the Bite Size Bits that are part of each collection. They're perfect for cards and this cute chicken spoke to me.  I added a bit of muslin behind the image for a country feel.  The ribbon is May Arts and the twine is Trendy Twine.

Teacher Gifts: Owl Treat Bags

These little owl treat bags are one of my favorite things to make. They're easy, don’t require fancy tools and are always a hit with recipients.  The sentiment can be changed to fit the occasion. I used these as holiday gifts for teachers and staff.

To make each owl, I cut a 3 inch by 12 inch strip of patterned paper. I used the Once Upon A Christmas collection from Little Yellow Bicycle and scored the paper strips at 4.5 inches from either end. The score marks gave the owls a 3-inch base, perfect for flat-bottomed treat sacks from Martha Stewart. After scoring, I folded the paper into a tent shape.

To make the owl's eyes, I punched two large circles from cardstock, covered them with adhesive, then added twine and googly eyes.  I used Trendy Twine in Holly (green) and Holly Berry (green/red mix). I have a tutorial for making twine circles on this post.

This is a side view of the treat bags. To make the sentiments, I ran bits of scrap patterned paper through my printer. One owl says:  Whooooo's a great teacher?  You are!  The other owl says: Merry Christmas, Y'owl.

Fun with Puns

I've always been a bit corny and am partial to jokes that are dumb but funny. At least to my funnybone. Just to give you an idea of how easy it is to make me smile, these jokes did:

Why did the pirate go to the Caribbean?
He wanted some Arrrr and Arrrr.

Why couldn't Dracula's wife get to sleep?

Because of his coffin.

Why did the skeleton go to the party alone?
He had no body to go with him...

I'm always on the lookout for punny sayings. My favorite place to use puns (and lame jokes) is on cards. I'm the kind of geek who will browse in Hallmark and giggle. A sad but true fact.

This is a card I made over the weekend and somehow hoodwinked Echo Park into putting it on its blog.

As soon as I saw this cute bottlecap pp in EP's Happy Days line, I knew it was ripe for a pun.  This was a really fast card to put together. I used a blank American Crafts 5x7 card as my base and just cut it down to a square.  The pink pp is the flip side of the bottlecaps. The banner, alphas and red scallop line are EP stickers. 

To give the banner a little oomph, I backed it with cardboard, then sewed it to the card. This gives a bit of dimension and texture but still makes it easy to mail in a standard envelope.
