As part of the annual event Read Across America, my son's school celebrates Dr. Seuss's birthday with a dress-up day. The kids are encouraged to come to school dressed as a character from a Dr. Seuss book.
At my son's school, they typically wear uniforms, so dress-up days are always a big hit.
I wanted a costume that was easy and inexpensive and wouldn't restrict my active boy's daily activities.
We chose the book: One Fish Two Fish Red Fish Blue Fish.
To make the fish, I hand-drew them on adhesive-backed craft foam. These sheets are easy to find at any craft store. The sheets sell individually for about 99 cents. I bought a red sheet and a blue sheet (given the book's title) and a yellow sheet.
After cutting out the fish, I added a wiggly eye to each. Then I peeled the adhesive from the back of the foam and applied the fish to my son's shirt. Super easy!
As you may have guessed, the most popular costume at school today was Thing 1 and Thing 2.
Happy birthday, Dr. Seuss!
