Father's Day Gifts From Kids: Fancy Pants

I love watching the relationship between my Dad and my son.  For Father's Day, I wanted to give my Dad something personal from Cory, who is 4.  I did an interview with Cory, asking him some simple questions about my Dad, who he calls Pop Pop. 

I typed my questions and Cory's answers into a Word document than ran a piece of patterned paper through the printer. 

I love this cute paper from Fancy Pants Designs. The colorful hats on this notebook paper from the Swagger line were perfect. I topped the page with felt bow tie, also from Swagger. 

I thought I would add one more simple gift.  Cory loves gummy worms and Swedish fish and my Dad always has them on hand. They are the first thing Cory asks for when he visits.  

For this project, I used a small craft paint can, filled it with gummies and added a bit of decoration, also by Fancy Pants Designs. The sentiment says: My Pop's a great catch!  The cute fishie paper, polka dot tag and crab flair from the Down by the Shore collection were perfect!

Last year, Cory gave Dad a cute handprint hanging that Dad still has displayed in his office, so I have an inkling that Pop Pop will like these too. 

Altered Treat Jar and Bon Voyage Card

Echo Park Paper has so many fun and happy lines and I love them all. I was especially excited to see the camping themed paper and icons in the So Happy Together line, released this summer.  It was just what I needed to make something for my folks, who have retired and bought an RV.

My parents are on an eight-week East coast to West coast trip with my aunt and uncle following along in their own RV. They are having a blast and especially enjoyed Yellowstone. They are hitting it all from the high brow (presidential libraries) to the low-brow (Branson, Mo., where "Branson puts the show in the Show-Me state").

Before they left, I made a little treat jar and card for my folks. 

I recycled a jar I had around the house and filled it with their favorite candy.  The jar was a great size, because a 12-inch paper strip fit around it perfectly.  

I used the RV patterned paper as the base and added a border punched strip above and below. I stitched those together then wrapped them around the jar.  To decorate the top, I traced the lid onto patterned paper then cut out the circle and glued it on. I also added a doily and sticker on top. 

Around the lid, I added a red ribbon, first sewing a zig zag stitch for a decorative touch, and some fun red twine from Trendy Twine. The label is a journaling card with alpha stickers and a little birdie. 

For the card, I echoed the red ribbon and used patterned paper and stickers for a quick coordinating look.

Easter: Bunny Treat Jar and Card

I love getting ready for the holidays and making little treats (and eating a few.....). At Cory’s preschool, the teacher gives the kids a little Easter basket, so I wanted to be sure Cory had a gift for her in return.

I made this bunny jar from a Valentine treat container I got at Michael’s on clearance in late February. I thought it would be pretty easy to re-purpose. I cut off the ends of the arrow and removed the heart gem, then attached the bunny face to the felt heart.

　

The bunny face was easy to make. I started with large punched circles, inked the edges, and attached those to either side of the heart. On the front side, I added googly eyes, a punched heart nose and twine whiskers. I used glue to stiffen the whiskers and put them aside to dry. While the whiskers were drying, I hand-cut ears and attached them, adding a chipboard flower.

Then, on the jar itself, I added a sentiment from October Afternoon, “You’re a good egg,” and some paper paws to hold it. To finish, the project, I tucked a little Easter grass in the bottom of the jar, added Cadbury eggs and twisted on the Easter top. I ran pink ribbon around the lid, then circled extra twine on top of the ribbon. I used Trendy Twine's Cherry Cupcake, which is a fun mix of red and pink.

Of course, I need a card to go with the treat. I made a simple one from October Afternoon patterned paper, using a negative die cut of a bunny and a sentiment sticker.
