PaperHaus Blog Hop: Celebrating The Winter Issue

Hi everyone. Welcome! Have you seen the gorgeous new issue of PaperHaus magazine? It's a thing of beauty, I tell you. And it's free!  Here's the link: PaperHaus Magazine Winter Issue

Isn't the cover pretty?

Inside you'll find a variety of winter and holiday projects in every style.

The contributors have been celebrating the new issue with a blog hop each day, these first 12 days of December.  Here we are at Day 11.  Each day's hop is really short, about 4 blogs.  We'd love to have you join us!  Leave a comment on each blog to be eligible for prizes from our sponsors. You won't believe how generous they are! I'm delighted to contribute to this magazine.

Today, I am sharing a holiday layout that documents that time-honored tradition: picking out the Christmas tree. Our family goes to to a nearby tree farm each year, we pick our tree, cut it down, haul it home and decorate.

I primarily used Little Yellow Bicycle's Fern and Forest collection for this layout. It isn't a traditional holiday line but the colors were just right.

On the left, I embellished the page. On the right, I arranged the photos down the side to tell the story: arriving, cutting, hauling and decorating. There's a tag under the main photo for journaling.

If you're following along for the hop, you should have arrived here from Cassie's blog.  The next stop is Amazing Mold Putty.

If you want to check out the blog hop from the previous days, go to PaperHaus for all the scoop!

Thanks for stopping by. I'll be back on Friday with another holiday project.

PaperHaus Fall Splendor Blog Hop

Hello and a big warm welcome to the Fall Splendor Blog Hop with PaperHaus Magazine!  We are celebrating our FALL edition, which also is our 1 year anniversary. Yay!  I am delighted to be part of this team.

Above is our Fall cover and you can read the issue using this link.

To celebrate the new issue, we will have a short blog hop each day through Sept. 15.  There are lots of prizes up for grabs each day.

If you are following along on the hop, you should have arrived here from the PaperHaus blog.  I made a card with a glassine bag gift card holder using the pretty Fall hues in the Memories Captured collection from Fancy Pants Designs.

This collection has such a fun mix of yellow, orange, green and black. I think I am going to use this line to scrap some Halloween photos. I love the way that aqua blue is seeping into Fall and holiday lines this year. Did you notice that with the new CHA releases?

Giveaway alert:  The cute little flair on the card front is from the Fancy Pants Designs collection, What A Wonderful Day. I received an extra set of this flair and I would love to pass it along to one of you, my readers. Just leave me a comment to enter.

Today's blog hop is sponsored by Spellbinders and they have offered up a generous prize. You can find all the details on the PaperHaus blog.

The winner of both giveaways will be announced on Sept. 16.

Next up on the hop is Jodi Baune. I know she'll have something amazing!

Hello everyone and thanks for joining us for Day Four of the PaperHaus Magazine summer release event! The contributors are so excited about this new issue, which has a mixed media focus and spotlights guest artists Anna Dabrowska, Kasia Krzyminska, Nathalie Kalbach and Dina Wakley and has a special interview with Tim Holtz.

In addition to mixed media, the issue is chock full of traditional summer themed work: cards, layouts and altered projects.

We're so excited about this issue that we have a whole month of fun planned, including a new blog hop each day, June 1 - 7, with lots of prizes. Each hop will last one week, with winners announced at the end of the week.

Here we are on the Day Four blog hop. If you are following today's hop, you should have arrived here from the talented Ivana Camdzic Stoicescu. Here's my summer card:

Nothing says summer like vacation. I love this big sticker of the car all loaded up. It reminds me of those long road trip vacations we took as a kid.  I used a mix of manufacturers here: Echo Park Paper, Studio Calico, October Afternoon and Lily Bee Designs.

Next up is Viva Las VegaStamps, our sponsor for the Day 4 hop. If you get lost or if you want to start at the beginning, please go to the PaperHaus blog.  Comments on this hop are open through June 11. Winners of the beautiful rubber stamps by Viva Las VegaStamps will be announced on June 12 or soon thereafter.

If you missed the hop for days 1, 2, and 3, there is still time to catch up and to enter the drawing for prizes.  You can find the details on the PaperHaus blog. While there, you'll find beautiful inspiration and tutorials every day this month. Be sure to stop by!

PaperHaus Spring Hop and Giveaway!

Hello everyone and welcome.  I'm so excited today to be part of the unveiling of the Spring issue of PaperHaus Magazine.

The contributors got together and are hosting a week-long blog hop.  Yes, it's a big hop, but there are prizes at every stop!  The hop runs through March 7.

Here's the pretty magazine cover and the link to read the Spring Issue.

I made a card to celebrate! I used the Family Ties collection from Pebbles Inc.  Stickers and buttons are October Afternoon, the stars are Studio Calico and the ribbon is May Arts.

I also like it as a tag.  I made the sailboat from circle and square punches.

On this stop of the hop, the prize is a Spring flower giveaway plus 5 yards of green and white bakers twine.  The flowers are Prima and Bo Bunny.

To enter the giveaway, please follow my blog and leave a comment.  You have until midnight March 7 to enter.  I'll pick a winner by random draw and post it on my blog Friday, March 8.

Thanks so much for stopping by.  If you are following the hop, you should have arrived here from Bente's blog.  The next stop on the hop is Jennifer Grace.  If you get lost along the way, you can find the full hop line-up here on the Paperhaus blog.  You can also find magazine updates on the Paperhaus Facebook page.

Well, hello December!

December does this every year:  I blink and it’s here!

December is ushering in lots of exciting things.  The new issue of PaperHaus magazine is out and it’s amazing.  I’m excited to be a contributor. You can see the new issue here.  The PaperHaus blog is giving away 12 great prizes, one prize a day for the first 12 days of December. Be sure to hop over there and leave a comment. Today’s prize is from Prima.

December 1 also marks the day for sneak peaks for the new kits at My Creative Scrapbook. Below is a sneak at one of my projects.  The full reveal is December 5 and the Design Team has outdone itself.  The holiday projects are amazing and we'll have tips and tutorials on the blog every day this month.

Last year, I decided to document my family’s holiday season with a December Daily.  It was the first time I undertook the project and I’ll be honest: I didn’t finish.  So this is the year!  The year to finish last year’s December Daily that is.

I did journal every day last year and I put a post it note in my December Daily of what we did. So even though I didn’t finish the album, I have a good record of what we did and for most days, I printed the photos, and slipped them in the page protectors too.  But since I didn’t have all my foundation pages premade, I found I just couldn’t keep up.

So, this year on my blog, I am going to post each day of my 2011 December Daily. Some days will be pages I’ve already done and some will be new pages that record last year’s activities.   When I get to December 25, I will have completed my 2011 December Daily. Yay!  That’s the plan anyway.

I started my December Daily with a photo from outside the house looking in.  I used an Ali Edwards template for 6x8 pages and followed her general design. Every day except Dec. 1 has a foundation page on the left and a journaling/photo page on the right.

Thanks for stopping by. I hope your December is off to a great start!

Fall Tray: Little Yellow Bicycle

I wanted to post one last Fall project before I get knee deep into the holiday season.  I have this colorful tray on the shelf in our den. It features two of Little Yellow Bicycle’s Fall collections:  Acorn Hollow and Hello Fall.  The two lines work great together.

For this project I used a bare trinket box from Maya Road that included six removable chipboard ATC cards.  You can paint or mist the box, but I left it bare as I liked the warm, raw Kraft hues.

I removed each of the chipboard ATC cards and covered five of them with patterned paper.  I used a photo on the last ATC card.

I stitched a border around each card, except the photo, and added journaling die cuts to four of the cards.  I embellished the cards with pennants, phrases and chipboard, including a trio of owls and trees.  I added a twine bow from Trendy Twine to the bottom tree.

Here’s a close-up of the top of the tray:

And a close-up of the bottom:

This project was featured in the Fall edition of PaperHaus Magazine.  The winter edition will be out December 1 with 12 days of holiday giveaways. You can find out all the details here on the PaperHaus blog.

Tutorial: How To Make A Welcome Home Sign

Welcome!  Today, I’m going to show you how I altered a wood plaque to make a Welcome Home sign, using the August Album Kit from My Creative Scrapbook.  This is the end project, shown with a little help from my 3-year-old.

This is how the sign looked when I started:

I bought this wood plaque on clearance from Hobby Lobby after Christmas for 39 cents.  It wasn’t very pretty but I knew it would be easy to alter and was a real bargain at that price.

I considered spray painting the plaque, which would have been an easy fix for a new background, but I wanted to stitch on my squares for a homey look, so I used a cardstock base instead.  I traced the shape of the plaque onto black cardstock, cut it out, then punched eight squares from patterned paper. I used Echo Park Paper’s So Happy Together collection. It’s super cute and had a great sticker in the line that said “welcome home.”  Perfect!

Once I had my squares, I lightly tacked them onto the black background, then used a sewing machine to stitch around them.  Whenever I stitch on a project, I try to put the adhesive in a place where the needle won’t go to avoid ending with a really sticky needle.  In this case, I put the adhesive in the middle of the squares.

The kit included a large chipboard arrow.  It was a little too tall for my plaque, so I snipped off the bottom, covered it in patterned paper, stitched the edges and added a few embellishments.

Here’s a final look at the project.

This was really easy to make.  The plaque can either sit on a shelf or hang on the wall. I think I’m going to put it on my Expedit in my craft room to welcome me there.

Thanks for stopping by.  Don’t forget that PaperHaus magazine launches its inaugural issue on Sept. 1.  The contributors are part of a blog hop with awesome prizes along the way with several grand prizes on the PaperHaus blog. You have until midnight Friday to enter. You can find all the details here.

PaperHaus Magazine Blog Hop & Giveaway

Hello and welcome!  I’m so excited today to be part of a blog hop of contributors for PaperHaus, which is launching Sept. 1.  PaperHaus is a quarterly publication for the scrapbooker, card-maker, mixed media artist and crafters of altered projects and mini albums.  The magazine will feature articles, trends, tutorials and, of course, a multitude of beautiful projects.  And it's all completely free.

You can find the full line-up of participating bloggers on the PaperHaus Magazine blog. Nearly all the bloggers on the hop are offering RAKS along the way, plus the magazine is offering BIG prizes by several manufacturers.  All the details are posted on the PaperHaus blog and Facebook page. The blog hop will be open all week, concluding Sept. 1 with the reveal of PaperHaus' first issue.

If you are visiting my blog today as part of the hop, you should have arrived here from Aimee Maddern’s blog.

For my project, I wanted to express how appreciative I am that you stopped by and are supporting the magazine launch.

I used a mix of products here. Patterned paper, border sticker and covered brad are Crate Paper; doily is Webster’s Pages; sentiment is Jillibean Soup.

The RAK on this stop is a package of camera wood veneers from Studio Calico and a brad set from Echo Park Paper. To be entered in the drawing, follow this blog and leave a comment.  Comments will close on Sept. 1. A winner will be chosen by random draw and announced here on Sept. 2.

The next stop on the PaperHaus blog hop is Jess Mutty. Thanks so much for stopping by. I hope you have a wonderful weekend.
